Northern Ireland Science Park

Located in Belfast’s historic ship building yards amid the Titanic Quarter, Northern Ireland Science Park (NISP) was established in March 1999. It is a not-for-profit business that supports start up and incubation of innovation-led, high-growth, knowledge-based businesses.

NISP presently offers 100,000 sq ft of workspace. Tenants range from global giants to single desk start-ups. Over 1,400 staff are employed on NISP property and they generate an annual salary bill of c.£40 million. NISP also runs innovation support programmes designed to bring good ideas to commercial reality.

The key strategic issue for NISP is its smooth transition into first full year of commercial independence (away from the aegis of government control). We have put in place a targeted communications programme to assist in ensuring the Science Park is positioned well ahead of the curve as vanguard agency within a burgeoning value-added, wealth-generating sector, with a view to its long-term funding stability. Alongside this we promote some key Titanic linked assets, particularly the newly revamped Titanic Dock & Pump House to visitors and schools – a place where our innovation heritage sits alongside the innovation of today.

Our focus has been on a number of core challenges

·  reducing the gap between perception and understanding of NISP’s various roles and offerings

· highlighting NISP’s relevance to everyday life in Northern Ireland

· connecting effectively with potential audiences

· positioning it as a key player in the ICT and Technology Innovation Sphere in NI – turning innovation into commercial reality.

Our work for the NI Science Park has been recognised in the 2009 CIPR Pride Awards where we picked up the award for Best Use of Social Media on behalf of NISP.
