Local Government Boundaries Commissioner

Morrow Communications assisted the Local Government Boundaries Commissioner (LGBC) to proactively manage the official launch, and subsequent consultation period of its recommendations for the new make up of the council boundaries in Northern Ireland, following the Review of Public Administration (RPA).

This was to represent one of the biggest shake ups in public service delivery here which recommended a reduction of the number of local councils in Northern Ireland from 26 to seven.  

We delivered a comprehensive public relations and event management plan which clearly set out a course of action that would allow the LGBC to manage this announcement while at the same time allowing it to use the media in order to deliver key information to the wider general public. We also delivered an intensive media training programme in advance to prepare for the media onslaught.

Throughout this process we supported the Commissioner and his team on both a strategic and tactical level.  This support has allowed the LGBC to achieve their key objectives and to enjoy wide ranging media coverage  of both the official announcement and public consultation process.

The process may now have to be revisited as the return of devolution to NI has resulted in the initial decision on the number of Council’s to be reconsidered.
