November 2005 & 2006, Ulster Folk & Transport Museum
National Enterprise Week, the annual initiative instigated by Gordon Brown as Chancellor in 2005 takes place in November each year. Invest NI run a comprehensive series of events throughout this week in Northern Ireland. The events target different sectors of the business community – social economy enterprises, female entrepreneurs and secondary school children.
In 2005 and 2006 Morrow Communications were contracted to organise a ‘gala dinner with a difference’ to celebrate the success of Northern Ireland’s top entrepreneurs. The Ulster Folk and Transport Museum provided an unusual and intriguing setting for this prestigious awards ceremony.
2005 - Guests boarded a steam train at Belfast Central Station enjoying a glass of wine as they travelled to Cultra Halt. On disembarking the train they were greeted by actors in traditional costume who guided them to the Transport Museum. Hosted by BBC Northern Ireland’s Wendy Austin and Declan Curry, the evening consisted of an array of performances carefully chosen by Morrow to entertain guests whilst intertwining with the main awards themselves. The atmosphere within the challenging museum setting was created as the result of meticulous planning in lighting and background music throughout.
2006 - We were met with the challenge of producing the Hall of Fame awards again in the same setting. Many guests were returning for a second year, making it crucial for us to have a highly creative and innovative approach to the task in hand. Using a combination of lighting techniques and set design to give a completely different feel to the venue along with a contrasting line-up of entertainment including local opera singer Ceara Grehan and the Ulster Orchestra, we were commended for our ability to breathe new life into an existing concept
Our years of experience, creative flair and excellent working relationships with event suppliers enabled us to deliver two very contrasting evenings in this challenging museum setting.
One guest shares his experience of the event...
“The concept of steam train trip (with complimentary glass of wine en route) and then the dinner in the museum gallery worked well… At the dinner, much favourable comment about the train and the location. The spectacle of the tables set out on the turntable pit surrounded by the giants of steam makes an instant impression. Excellent food and good service, and a very relaxed atmosphere (particularly after the champagne). The highlight of the event was the appearance between courses of trapeze artists from Tumble Circus. Most dramatic.”
