October 2008, Millennium Forum, Derry City
The Brief
Morrow Communications were appointed as the Event Management Company inaugural All-Island Skills Conference which took place in October 2008. The conference was the first collaboration between two expert skills groups, the Department for Employment and Learning in the North and Forfás in the Republic of Ireland. Attracting delegates from across the island, the conference objective was to demonstrate the importance of these organisations on skills in the workforce and how they influence economic success.
The Event
Due to the cross border element of this conference, Morrows advised that the conference be held in the North West, thus allowing Forfás to host a dinner in Letterkenny on the eve of the conference whilst DEL hosted the main event in Derry. Morrows recommended a number of venues culminating with the Millennium Forum being selected as the conference venue due to its size and unrivalled technical and production facilities. We worked closely with the Media and Marketing Unit of both DEL and Forfás advising on all aspects of the conference from invitation design and issue, set and audio visual design, exhibition management as well as speaker management including logistical arrangements, briefing and script writing for the conference host, Miriam O’Callaghan. Morrows managed the online registration for both the dinner and conference and ensured that both organisations were kept up to date on a daily basis.
The Result
Over 300 delegates from across Ireland attended this joint conference to hear from Sir Reg Empey, Minister for Employment and Learning, Mary Couglhan, TD Tánaiste and Minister for Enterprise, Trade and Employment, Sean Haughey, TD Minister of State and well as case studies from across the island.
